Visited to the mayors parlour
The Historical Society visited the mayors parlour in May. We were welcomed by Ian Clifton our local councillor and deputy mayor. He handed proceedings over to Barry Tappenden the mayors officer. We were able to see and handle the mayors mace, chain and other interesting items not usually seen by the public. He had been told in advance (unknown to Phillip) that Phillip's grandfather and uncle had both been the mayor of Bedford in the past. So who else was there to choose when it came to someone trying on the mayor's robes!
