Ben Baldock at 100, well done.

Ben was born in Hertford East on 13th August 1908.

He had 2 brothers and 1 sister - all deceased.

 Ben's early years were spent in London. He left school in 1922 and worked in a pub called the "Hole in the Wall" as a potman. He stayed there for 18 years. The pub was an archway where you stood and drank your beer.

 Ben married Mary in 1936.

 He was then called up for the army in December 1940. He was a driver in the 'Chemical Warfare Regiment' and stayed for the duration in England, guarding the coastline.

 In August 1942 he was discharged as unfit due to frostbite.

 He returned to Mary in Billericay and ran a small nursery. Mary and Ben had a son in 1938 - Ben Junior. They sold the nursery and moved to Higham Ferrers in 1965 due to Mary's ill health, where he looked after her until her death in 1982.

 Ben then helped his son at a nursery in Odell until he moved to Brook House on 28th November 2001 to be looked after.

Ben now has:- 2 Grandsons and 4 Great-grandchildren.

Ben enjoys:- Domino's, Reading, Bingo, Watching Football, Old Westerns and the Over 60's Club.
