Know your Parish Councillor

April Prigmore

In comparison to all the other parish councillors, April is a newcomer to Riseley. She moved to the village three years ago, with husband Andrew and children, Alex 10, Luke 7 and Amelia 18 months.

April grew up in High Wycombe with her parents and brother. After finishing her higher education in electronics and computers, she worked for a large electronic components company and trained in sales and marketing. Job relocation brought her to Bedfordshire and she settled in Oakley.

While her children were smaller she started  actively participating more in village life. She was chairperson of the local toddlers' group, helping to raise their profile within the community and neighbouring parishes, and fund-raising. This culminated in an increase in their numbers and funds enabling the group to move to bigger and better premises.

She also chaired a small committee dedicated to raising money for a playground within the village. It was a tall order and this meant dealing with local councils, businesses and charities. The group raised their target of £25,000 within four years. It is an ongoing responsibility taken over by Oakley Parish Council.

During this fund-raising and after attending Parish Council meetings regularly, April was asked to become a councillor. She remained a parish councillor until moving  into Riseley, where she is now serving her first year on Riseley Parish Council.

April moved to Riseley after setting up and running a successful entertainment company. The company provides a wide variety of high quality entertainments such as casino tables, bands and discos, for all types of events from corporate team-building to weddings, themed evenings and birthdays. She also works solely as a professional entertainer and organiser, behind the deck of a sound system or 'chipping up' anywhere from Brighton to Glasgow!!
